NEW ALBUM FOR 2012!
-
October 27, 2011
My new studio album, Wrestling With Dragons, is just about in the final stages of production. Honestly, it's like seeing a ship being built at the Bath Iron Works! Many stages to go through. Right now, I am predicting a release in January of 2012.
There will be 10 tracks, recorded in Texas, Tennessee and New Hampshire, featuring some really top musicians. Every cut is unique and the album plays like an anthology, yet somehow hangs together. I shall keep you posted!
KEENE MUSIC FESTIVAL
-
October 3, 2011
My hat's off to the the folks in Keene who put in a tremendous effort to make the Keene Music Festival happen! What a great event - all kinds of music, outdoors, on multiple stages, simultaneously! A true music fair. The best part was the audience. Everyone was so positive. I met a lot of very nice people. I suggest you put this event down on your calendar for 2012!
Thank You, Towne Crier

June 29, 2011
I had the pleasure to play the Towne Crier Cafe's semi-annual invitational open mic night on June 26, 2011. There were 16 performers, and 2 were selected to play as an opener for a future headliner show. Happy to report I was one of those selected! What makes it cool was that the voting was done by my fellow performers. I was really moved, to tell you the truth. Everyone was creative and expressive, and to be chosen among peers was special. The audience was great, too! It felt really good to know that my songs were getting across to others.
The Towne Crier is a well known stop for national and international musicians of various styles, particularly those who are acoustic oriented . I am looking forward to seeing what develops--will keep you posted!
Santa Cruz guitar tour
-
March 6, 2011
I was fortunate to have a personal tour of the Santa Cruz guitar factory in Santa Cruz, CA conducted by owner Richard Hoover. They build great guitars with a high degree of hand craft, always doing whatever it takes to optimize the sound to be derived from carefully selected, rare tonewoods. Check out the Santa Cruz site at
www.santacruzguitar.com.
On my photo page you'll find a picure of Richard and me discussing my old Gibson. Thank you, Richard!
Thanks WSCA!

Thanks to Shawn Henderson of the Stayed Tuned program on WSCA 106.1 FM in Portsmouth, NH, for having me on for an interview and to play some songs! I highly recommend this show, which you can hear over the internet off the WSCA site on Friday afternoons. Shawn plays great Americana music and has featured lots of live, in-studio performances and interviews with a variety of songwriters, including the legendary Eric Andersen, musician/Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels and New England favorite Jon Pousette-Dart--lucky for me, he allowed me to be the first guest for 2011!
FAMFEST 2010

AT THE MOVIES!
-
May 1, 2010
I am so excited to announce the trailer to the documentary movie "Mayflowers" can now be seen at the video page of this site. I had the pleasure of writing and performing the theme song for the film, which tells the story of a visit by members of the Chicago 7 to UNH in 1970 - the day after the Kent State shootings. No matter what your political stripes may be, you have to see this blast from the past. With appearances by Abbie Hoffman and William Loeb, you know it's going to be fascinating! I thank award winning director Gary Anderson for allowing me to be involved in the project. It was great fun to write in support of a film - a very different experience. The music is very "Dylanesque" and designed to evoke the times. For more information, go the links page of this site and check out nhmovies.com.

"BROKEN GLASS" - as recorded by Aly Sands
-
March 31, 2010
I am so pleased that Nashville singer Aly Sands has recorded a very cool rendition of my song, "Broken Glass." This song was among a bunch of tracks I started working on in Nashville in the fall of 2008 that have not yet seen the light of day, and I am glad Aly got to this one ! Check it out in the music section of this site.
New Tupelo Music Hall Video
-
February 25, 2010
I've put up a video of an as yet unreleased song called "Three Women" on the video page. It was recorded at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, New Hampshire. I sort of put this tune on the shelf months ago, but when I reviewed the video, I came back to liking the feel of the music and story. Check it out and let me know what you think!

ABOUT "SONGS ALONG THE HIGHWAY"
-
February 8, 2010
Here is a thematic album of 11 songs recorded live. The acoustic arrangements are simple but effective, supporting the impact of the stories and images delivered by an expressive voice and strong melodies. Each song is like a chapter of a book, describing in unique detail a persistent search for an almost undefinable goal, while looking back and into the future at the same time. The title cut serves an an epilogue, with its images of a family evicted by a conflicted sheriff, a tied-up pony's struggle to be free and the narrator's dream of a canyon sunset that is both beautiful and foreboding, hinting that his apparent impatience and indifference toward others is born of his own desperation to continue the search in the face of limited time. Chances are you will recognize yourself somewhere in the words to these songs, right about the time you start to sing along. This is acoustic songwriting in the best tradition. An excellent choice for a long drive...
